Those entrepreneurs who have survived the recession continue to show glimmers of optimism. A new Intuit Payroll survey found that 44% are planning to hire in the next 12 months. The survey, which polled more than 1,000 small business owners, also revealed that 60% of small business owners expect their business to grow over the period.
My fear is that what we are seeing are mere embers of optimism left over from the blazing fires of our economic boom times of the past twenty years, rather than a spark heralding a period of renewed growth.
I would like to add my two cents on this. Entrepreneurs are a realistic lot, most started on their own and they do know how difficult it is to raise funding etc. I would expect that their glowing confidence in hiring is a direct result of an improvement in economic environment and should be sustainable.
Entrepreneurs aren’t the same species as career managers who don’t have to worry about how much is left in the piggy banks.
This optimism is something other entrepreneurs should take inspiration of. In times of financial crisis we need business men who are courageous, optimistic and not easily defeated.
